As wedding and market season is upon us, we are looking just around the corner to when this bustling boutique bakery will be all over the county set up at markets and fairs, while also delivering wedding cakes and desserts to important celebrations from King to Whatcom Counties, with the downtown storefront location will be open 5 days a week! Looking for a team member that has some cake decorating experience.
It doesn't need to be experience building and decorating elaborate tiered cakes or anything - but putting together a single tier triple layer celebration cake, or frosting a hundred cupcakes in less than an hour should be within your comfort zone.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable helping with setting up markets, a bit of customer service, decorating and finishing all kinds of desserts, and helping with the nuts and bolts of what makes the bakery run, like cleaning, dishes, putting away inventory, etc.
This job definitely has a lot of moving pieces and keeps things exciting! Sense of Urgency is an ABSOLUTE MUST for this position.
Being comfortable and confident performing a variety of tasks quickly is the essence of the job.
Training will be provided but we do need someone with decorating experience specifically for this position (even if it is basic piping and we get you moved up to more elaborate desserts within a few weeks of starting).
Pay is $18 per hour plus tips - so on a Saturday afternoon when we are at the market, the bakery is open, AND we are delivering a 200 guest wedding to Mount Vernon - the tips can definitely stack up! Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and be comfortable doing everything from breaking down boxes, throwing away trash and doing dishes - to answering the phone with a smile and finding solutions to people's inquiries while frosting several cakes to be picked up that day! Duties As a Bakery Assistant, you will be responsible for the following duties:
- Assisting in the finishing, decorating and packaging of various bakery items - Handling food in compliance with health and safety regulations - Providing excellent customer service by assisting customers with their bakery orders - Operating the Square POS system for order processing - Upselling bakery products to increase sales without being pushy or making people feel uncomfortable - Maintaining a clean and organized work environment in the bakery - In-person client orders, gathering important information for custom order requests - Answering the telephone in a polite, professional and welcoming attitude - being helpful and solution oriented while speaking with customers on the phone Skills The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following skills:
- Experience in food handling within a bakery - cake and cupcake decorating specifically - Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks efficiently - Proficiency in basic math for measurements and calculations - Familiarity with Square POS system for order processing is a plus but not required - Ability to provide exceptional customer service while assisting customers with their bakery needs - Strong customer service skills, with a focus on taking a genuine interest in people and your interactions with them.
