What you'll be doing The Community Food Co-op's Wellness Department Manager position has responsibility to supervise department staff and select, obtain and merchandise products to meet objectives for sales, margin and customer service to ensure that the department contributes to the best financial interests of the store.
The Wellness Department Manager reports to the Store Manager.

Customer Service Role model excellent customer service for staff and provide excellent internal service to staff and peers.
Ensure department employees provide excellent customer service and receive appropriate CS training.
Answer all customer comments in a timely manner.
Explain store policies and procedures clearly, completely and concisely to staff, members, customers, and vendors.
Financial Practices Participate in development of annual budget and long term strategic planning for labor and operating expenses and capital spending.
Meet labor, sales and margin goals determined in conjunction with Store, Finance, and General Manager.
Maintain pricing structure that meets budget goals.
Maintain working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers and financial goals.
Work with merchandising department to maintain accurate PLU's and prices in POS system.
Communicate relevant sales, margin and labor goals to staff on a regular basis.
Communicate standards, expectations, policy changes and product knowledge to staff.
Management Practices Actively participate in management and other planned meetings.
Stay current on global trends and changes that affect the natural foods industry.
Work with Store Manager to maintain and improve product mix.
Work with Store Manager to develop promotional programs for the department.
Respond to challenging situations in a positive and professional manner including proposing new ideas or better ways of doing things.
Demonstrate regular, predictable work attendance.
Demonstrate a willingness and ability to cooperate and communicate with co-workers, supervisors, staff and/or outside contacts in a timely and appropriate manner.

Follow health and safety rules appropriate to department.
Personnel Practices Actively address performance and personnel issues in a timely manner.
Follow Co-op policies in the spirit intended.
Work with managers and team members to develop goals, standards and procedures.
Establishes systems for communication and promotes staff participation in departmental development and input on issues affecting staff.
Ensure that staff evaluations are completed properly and on time.
Organizes and facilitates regular team meetings.
Work with HR to coordinate hiring process.
Follow good documentation practices.
Ensure that all staff in department receives appropriate orientation and training.
Develop and maintain useful departmental training materials and provide follow up training to ensure that standards are met uniformly by all staff.
Ensure appropriate safety training for all department staff.
Ensure up-to-date department schedules are posted two weeks out.
Merchandising and Product Management Work with Merchandising department and Store Managers to establish department merchandising standards and expectations for product mix, product selection criteria, category management, shelf set display, signage and promotional activity.
Ensure adequate product and supplies are ordered and available for department.
Ensure product is on shelves and that out of stock tags are visible when necessary.
Ensure that invoices are processed properly and delivered in a timely manner.
Oversee and/or participate in periodic inventory counts.
Purchasing in Wellness Department Oversee all purchasing in the department.
Ensure that department buyers negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices and terms, quality and delivery.
Oversee all ordering to minimize out-of-stocks and overstocks and maximize sales and turnover.
Evaluate turns quarterly by pulling item movement reports of best sellers and slow movers and adjust assortment accordingly.
Ensure invoices are reviewed for pricing and discount accuracy; ensuring accurate separation of inventory categories and subcategories.
Set pricing to meet margin goals; mark-down items as needed to reduce losses.
Assure compliance with all purchasing contracts.
Oversee scheduled promotional purchasing programs, including CAP and MOD.
Operations Oversee all day to day operations of department Establish daily work routines for department.
Oversee and facilitate ordering and receiving of all produce items and supplies.
Create and maintain order guides as needed.
Responsible for routine maintenance and cleaning of all designated produce equipment.
Other Duties Familiar with and able to explain membership system simply, efficiently and completely Keep supervisor informed of any problems and/or ideas Keeps supervisor, team and Service Desk notified of whereabouts or schedule changes Maintain a high level of product knowledge, communicate pertinent product information to team.
Oversee special order systems.
Create when necessary, amend and/or maintain all systems which enable the Produce department to function efficiently and profitably.
Maintain Produce staff schedule.
Know and promote Co-op Principals and Mission, Vision, and Values, and follow co-op work policies and procedures Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Store Manager Requirements:
What skills are needed Ability to provide friendly face-to-face customer service in a fast-paced environment Ability to work closely and cooperatively with others Interest and ability to gain knowledge of natural and organic wellness industry Attention to detail and ability to shift attention easily between tasks Experience supervising and managing staff in a food service or retail setting preferred Willingness and ability to learn and to meet the changing requirements of the job Ability to work with little or no supervision, communicate effectively and work under deadlines Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business; some early mornings, evenings, holiday, and weekend shifts required Basic understanding of retail concepts and of retail industry Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and email programs).
Ability to speak and comprehend English well, multi-lingual is great Must be at least 18 years of age Physical requirements (with or without accommodation) Ability to work in moderate and loud noise environments including, but not limited to:
paging, telephones, human voices, music, and machinery.
