Key duties of the Purchasing Assistant position include:
Assists with coordinating the purchase of supplies, materials, equipment and rentals.
Maintains and monitors inventory of stock, tools, parts, supplies and materials on hand, replacing and updating as required within assigned areas.
Issues, tracks and maintains equipment and driver fueling cards.
Researches parts and equipment both independently and in coordination with vendors.
Prepares and/or assists with the preparation of requisitions, specifications, cost and quantity estimates, purchase orders and bid documents.
Ensures expenditures remain within approved budget and purchasing policies.
Enters data and prepares necessary reports.
Operates a forklift and loader to unload and move freight as needed.

0-MCBA Wage Table Qualifications Requires a high school diploma or GED AND 3 years of increasingly responsible purchasing experience in the automotive or heavy equipment field.
Experience serving departments engaged in construction and mechanical activities desired, including tools and components associated with vehicle and equipment mechanical repairs.
Requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Background check must meet County criteria.
Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment.
Must be eligible to cross between the United States and Canada.
At its sole discretion, Whatcom County may consider combinations of education, experience, certifications, and training in lieu of specifically required qualifications contained herein.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
