8K a year 5 days ago 5 days ago 5 days ago Summary Whatcom County seeks an experienced records officer to be a part of the leadership team in the Administrative Services Department Information Technology Division.
This important position serves as the County's Public Records Officer and is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and administering Countywide systems for physical and electronic records.
This position works with diverse individuals, groups, agencies and departments on effective records management practices.
Essential Job Duties Include:
Oversees the design, development and implementation of county-wide records and information management programs to comply with state and federal law.
Works closely with departments to determine the best business process for the systematic preservation of total lifecycle of records using both manual and automated systems as required.
Develops and administers the County's record retention and disposition schedules and preserves and protects the County's historical records and information.
Oversees storage and destruction of forms and records in the County Records Center.
Maintains an accurate inventory of records in the Records Center.
Works with State Archivist as needed.
Recommends changes to, creates and updates the County's record and information management policies, procedures and protocols.

This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range(apx.

8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).
Qualifications Business or Public Administration, or a related field AND 4 years of progressively responsible records management or related experience INCLUDING 2 years of lead or supervisory experience.
Must be a Certified Public Records Officer in Washington State or become one within one year of employment.
Proficiency with document imaging systems preferred.
Knowledge of local government practices and procedures, records management practices for Electronically Stored Information (ESI), e-mail and Web administration and archiving are desired.
Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment.
Must have a background check must meet County criteria for security sensitive positions.
