The GM role is a contractual position with an initial term and renewal terms thereafter, as mutually agreed upon.
Starting salary is $160K.

Job Overview The General Manager (GM) is hired by and reports directly to the cooperative's board of directors, which is elected by its members/ owners.
The Community Food Co-op board uses Policy Governance (PG) for oversight and outlines the relationship between organizational operations and board governance.
In the PG structure, the Co-Op's goals are articulated through Ends Policies and the GM's work is guided through Boundary Policies to assist the board in effectively working with the GM.
The job of the GM is to ensure organizational results as defined in Ends Policies and to avoid unacceptable conditions as defined by Boundary Policies.
This role is responsible for the operational success and strategic administration using the policies and direction set by the Board of Directors.
The GM is accountable for the development and success of the individual departments and the organization as a whole.

coop/join-us/board-of-directors/ Performance Standards The GM's performance will be evaluated through systematic monitoring of expectations established in policies on asset protection, financial conditions, business planning and financial budgeting, staff treatment and compensation, treatment of consumers, membership equity and benefits, communication and support to the board, board logistical support, and emergency management succession.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The GM has full responsibility for all aspects of running a successful, cooperatively owned, natural foods grocery store.
This includes:
Governance - maintain productive and collaborative relationship with the board, prepare and present reports (monitoring, financial, & development), engage in strategic planning, report on relevant and emerging issues.
Community Engagement - connect with stakeholders, build and manage partnerships Financial Planning - prepare annual and multi-year budgets, deliver results, assess new opportunities.
Operations - ensure a profitable business working within the Co-op's mission, vision and values.

Human Resources - ensure an ethical work environment, oversee compliance with personnel policies.
Marketing & Outreach - ensure an effective marketing and outreach strategy.
Supervision - the GM directly supervises the Finance Director, HR Director, Membership & Marketing Director, Store Operations Directors, Prepared Foods Director, IS Retail Director, Facilities Manager, and Admin/Sustainability Manager.
Qualifications and Competencies Required Experience/ Track Record of Success:
5
years experience in a retail or similar environment, in a leadership role.
At least 3 years of direct management.
Demonstrated financial acumen:
ability to interpret and act on financial reports Engagement in strategic thinking and planning.
Successful business planning and execution.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in cultivating high-performing collaborative teams.
Supports and upholds accountability and transparency.
Highly Desired:
Experience working in grocery and/ or cooperative settings.
Experience working with a board of directors.
